Max grew up in a household where music was valued and enjoyed – playing and listening in a house filled with all manner of instruments from piano and strings to woodwind, brass and drums. He has been playing saxophone since around the age of 10 years.
After graduating from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Music/Popular Music in 2015, Max has carved his career as a professional musician performing in and managing event bands. He boasts an enviable live performance pedigree, having performed at a variety of events across the world including in USA, Russia, UAE and the Maldives.
At present Max is resident sax player in the show band ‘Jam Hot’ and runs his own folk/pop band ‘Wandering Wings’, with whom he plays over 100 gigs a year. Max has experience playing in pit bands, big bands, smaller jazz groups and horn sections for original artists. He also plays piano and is experienced in writing and arranging parts.
Over the years Max’s passion for saxophones has increased and his current sax collection has, too. His main instruments are a Cannonball Stone Series Alto, a Selmer Ref 54 Tenor (both with Theo Wanne mouthpieces) and a Conn Selmer Premiere Baritone (with a SYOS mouthpiece). Max also has an endorsement through Wandering Wings for Cosmic Ears in ear monitors.
